Most of us tend to adjust our wardrobe with the change of seasons as we naturally adapt to the warmer weather. It makes sense to change what we wear because the warmer weather affects our body temperature and our activities. However, one area where some of us tend to forget to adjust is in our beauty routines. Effects of the weather changes on our skin require us to change our beauty routine, whether we are conscious of it or not. But before you start panicking and thinking you have to throw out your favorites or change everything, just relax, it’s all good! There are only a few simple, small changes you need to make to your beauty routine in the Spring and Summer months in order to achieve your best look.
While in the Winter your skin is more on the dry side and may require extra moisture and coverage, in the Summer and Spring months you should be looking for a more matte finish to your makeup. Likewise, you should be opting for BB and CC creams rather than heavy foundations which can often look cakey with the moisture/heat effects. With all the heat and moisture in the air, you should be allowing your skin to breathe rather than packing on the heavy makeup.
You should also be prepared to purchase a new shade of foundation or BB/CC cream in the Spring/Summer months, as your skin tone will likely darken if you are exposed to the sun. Make sure you invest in a foundation with SPF properties to add extra protection to your skin.
You likely already take good care of your hair during the dry Winter months, but the trick to Summer and Spring hair is to enhance moisture, frizz control and heat protection. Your hair can be very damaged by exposure to the Sun, especially when combined with styling tools, which is why conditioning and using a heat protectant is crucial. Coconut oil is a great natural conditioning technique to bring life back to dull hair, just apply some before bed once or twice a week and wash your hair the next day as normal. Avoid using hair straighteners and curling irons as much as possible, and instead try and air dry your hair during these warmer months. Leave-in conditioners are your friend for both heat protection and anti-frizz!
Less Is More
When it comes to your eye-shadow, lipstick, liner and other makeup, the best alternative in the warmer months is to use less! A colorful lip requires less eye makeup but still gives the fresh and fab look you want to achieve. A little bit of mascara and white liner can make your eyes pop without needing to do the whole eye-shadow crease routine. Since the warmer months bring out a natural glow in your skin, you naturally won’t need as much makeup to look good. Plus, the lighting is usually going to be on point anyway…so you’re good to go!
Heavy moisturizers can clog up your pores (causing breakouts) and even make you look greasy when you’re dealing with sweaty, hot weather. Try and opt for a lighter moisturizer in the warmer months. Personally I’d recommend anything by the Nivea brand, as this is my personal favorite and one I wholeheartedly believe in! If you need a face moisturizer, try and look into a nice serum…which is lighter on the skin but still helps keep it soft and moisturized. Drink plenty of water for natural hydration, moisture and clear skin!
