It’s that time of year… When kids, teens and young adults are returning to school yet again! First week of school is usually an exciting time for many…You’re well rested, you haven’t started the tough studying yet so you’re actually looking forward to it, you get to see your friends, and you get to plan out cute outfits to wear!
The key to school wear is to keep it comfortable, since you’ll be in those clothes for most of the day. Schools often have dress codes so conservative is another. Here’s some of my personal favorite and affordable pieces for back to school. Remember, as inspiring as some guidelines may be…it’s essential to mix your style into whatever outfit you are planning. After all, fashion is about expressing yourself, not dressing as someone else!
Though Vans are a classic, they also happen to flatter most people and are quite comfortable for those class changes or walking across campus all day. If you’re feeling fancy, you can dress up any outfit with a pair of nice booties, they’re edgy, tough, and practical. If it gets colder, you can rotate these through fall and winter!
When it comes to tops, a great thing about a long sleeve knit with a collar, such as the red one above, is that it is dressy without the fuss or effort. You look put together even when you’ve rolled out of bed. Plus..they’re actually REALLY comfortable as they don’t cling to your body too tightly, allowing you to breathe and move around as you need to. If you want to go for a more casual look, the Raglan Tee is cute yet very casual and comfortable. Pair it up with jeans and some vans and you’re stylish and comfy all day long.
Jeans are of course a given for the school year. But my suggestion is to go for a jegging this time around. Even though by now we should all know that leggings are not pants considering their erm, see through material…jeggings are one purchase you can get away with because they look and fit like jeans, but they FEEL like leggings! So you’ll be comfortable all day yet no one will be able to tell if you’re wearing jeans or leggings. With all the sitting and moving around you have to do at school, you don’t want to be stuck in a really tight pair of skinny jeans that cut off your circulation. Stick to the comfy stuff, kiddo!
This back to school style guide is not complete without a beanie. I’m a beanie enthusiast. I think that beanies look great on just about anybody (providing you find the right fit) and are perfect for cold days, windy days, or bad hair days! Let’s face it… we all want to get as much extra sleep in the morning as we can once that alarm rings. That’s why it’s nice to have a backup plan if you want to shorten your getting ready time… and a beanie is a great trick! So for those really lazy days…throw one on and you will look casual and cool, and no one will be able to tell that the top of your head is a mess!
While this is just some of my favorite and affordable picks, don’t forget to incorporate your style and what you feel comfortable in! The key is to stay comfortable because a comfortable outfit = greater focus on the important things…the learning. Enjoy your year!
